Coal Mine Details
The East Fairfield Coal Co. currently operates two underground coal mines. Sterling South is located in Salineville, Ohio, and Caroll Hollow is located south of Salineville in Caroll County. The deep mines remove coal with a continuous auger-type miner that feeds the product onto a series of conveyors that run to a screening and truck load-out area at the surface. The company operates a 300-ton per hour washing plant at its Sterling South location. The plant provides a cleaner product by removing most impurities, such as dirt, rock and sulfur.
